So I've been spreading the word that I have signed up for the Weekend to End Breast Cancer for next June. It's a 60km walk over 2 days to raise money for Breast Cancer Research. And in order to walk I have to raise a min of $2,000.
Besides soliciting my friends and family I have decided to crochet an afghan to raffle off. I also had the idea to make pink lip balm cozies that I could sell with all monies going towards the walk. I just needed to find some pink ribbon buttons. Gillian from Gillian Beads offered to give it and try. And oh my goodness. The buttons she has created are beautiful! I have only seen pictures and I'm anxiously awaiting for them to be finished and shipped so I can make some. Gorgeous.
Then Danielle from DZDesigns contacted me and offered to donate cards to sell with the proceeds going towards the walk! She has fantastic cards, I buy cards from her often! She made some breast cancer awareness cards that were even given out in the bags at What A Pair 6. A celebration of duets to benefit Breast Cancer Research (lots of celebs there!) So she's pretty amazing. Not only her work, but her generosity in supporting such a wonderful cause.
And can you believe PaisleyBaby has also offered to make card holders with some gorgeous breast cancer awareness fabric. Card holders to be used for business cards, gift cards or credit cards!
Canadian crafters are awesome and these three have been amazing. I just wanted to give a huge shout out to them for helping make this journey such a success.

Cozy Crazy
After having the discussion about making lip balm cozies to raise money for the weekend to end breast cancer I was in lip balm cozy mode. I made these yesterday. I have another one that's almost done, but I need to focus on hats today. I have to send some off to get photographed and I have a meeting on Tuesday that I have to bring some for!

Ribbon of Hope Progress
I've slowly been working on my ribbon of hope afghan. It's a slow process since I have so many other things on the go. So this is where I stand right now:
I also had another fundraising idea. I make lip balm cozy key chains. I thought it would be great to make them with a pink ribbon button and sell them. All proceeds to go toward The Weekend To End Breast Cancer.
As I type Gillian from Gillian Beads has a test button in the kiln. Yes! She is making handmade lamp work buttons! I can't wait to see it. I LOVE Gillian's buttons. They're sooo pretty. She mades beautiful beads too, of course I'm partial to her buttons. hehe And I have no doubt the button she's making now will look fantastic on the lip balm cozy! Thank you Gillian!

Waiting for my latte to cool
I had started this one with the intention of making it a size 2-4T. But it turned into an ooops. I must have skipped a stitch. So it now belongs to a sweet girl I know:)
I made this hat awhile ago, but as I do with so many hats it sat in my hat pile without being finished. So I finally darned in the ends and added a flower.

Labour of Hope Has Started
I've made the commitment to walk 60km and raise $2,000 for Breast Cancer. To help raise the money I thought I'd make a Ribbons of Hope Afghan and sell raffle tickets. Of course if anyone wants to make a donation of $2,000 (cdn) I would gladly make them this afghan AND you'd get a tax receipt! Let me know. I'll send you the link to make the online donation:) I'll even ship the afghan to you for free!
The afghan kit arrived Friday. Yay! I started Friday night. I was tired and wasn't counting properly so I had to rip out quite a bit. As of yesterday morning this was my progress on the afghan. It's coming along. It's going to be big! And it's sooo soft. Made from 100% acrylic.
The first picture shows you the full length of the afghan. Not a great picture, but it gives you an idea. The second picture shows a bit more of the detail. This is half of the pattern length.

The Afghan Kit Arrived

What's coming up?
I recently signed up to do the Weekend to End Breast Cancer 60km walk in my neighbourhood. It's not just a commitment to do the walk. It's a commitment to raise $2,000 as well. I'm on a team and we'll be doing fundraising together. One thing I thought of was to make an afghan. A breast cancer awareness afghan and me and my team can sell tickets for it. I'm waiting anxiously for my kit to arrive. My goal will be to get it finished before the labour day long weekend so that it can start doing the craft show circuit. I'll take pictures of the progress as I go and post it here. I'm a bit worried it won't get done in time.
